Can I reapply for a Qatar work visa after an unfit medical test?
What does the Qatar visa medical test include?
As part of the Qatar work visa process, applicants must undergo a medical examination either in their home country (GAMCA-approved centers) or after arrival in Qatar. The tests typically include:
- HIV blood test
- Hepatitis B & C test
- Syphilis test
- Chest X-ray for Tuberculosis (TB)
- In addition, some centers may also conduct urine analysis, drug screening, pregnancy tests for female applicants, and a general physical check-up.
Testing positive for any of these infectious diseases will result in being declared medically unfit, and your visa application may be denied.
What happens if you’re found medically unfit?
If your medical report shows a serious and untreatable condition such as HIV or active tuberculosis, you will not be eligible to obtain a work visa in Qatar.
But in case the problem is a temporary one, curable, or the result of technical mistake, then there can be a possibility to reapply — however, applicants may be required to wait for 3 to 6 months (in some cases, six months from the date of the unfit report) before reapplying.
Can you reapply? Here’s when it’s possible
You can reapply for a Qatar work visa if:
- If the result is due to a temporary condition or there is a suspected error in testing, you may be able to request a re-examination or file an appeal. Since 2025, applicants can also submit an online appeal through the Wafid/GAMCA portal if they have valid medical documents proving that the ‘unfit’ result was due to an error or misdiagnosis. Nonetheless, some disorders such as an inactive Tuberculosis could still be disqualifying according to the existing medical regulations of Qatar.
- Once your treatment is completed, obtain a medical clearance certificate from a licensed doctor before repeating the visa medical examination at a GAMCA/Wafid center.
- The fact that you were unsuccessfully previously applying for a visa does not mean that the Qatari system has blacklisted your application permanently.
Step-by-step process to reapply
- Identify the cause: Ask yourself why you have been declared unsuitable. The condition will be indicated in your medical report or testing centre.
- If the condition is treatable, seek proper medical treatment and obtain a medical fitness certificate once recovered. Once treated, get a fitness certificate of a recognized medical practitioner.
- Repeat the medical: Go to a GAMCA-recognized medical center in your country and take a new screening. Make sure that all tests are of Qatari visa medical standard.
- Develop coordination with employer: When you are applying with the help of an employer, you should inform your employer about your new medical condition. They can help you go through the documentation and reapplication.
- Re-apply for the Qatar work visa: You need to re-apply with a new visa application, use new medical documents, your passport and any other supporting paperwork that is required.
Important notes
- If you are found with a serious health condition that is considered disqualifying, you may be permanently ineligible to apply, even after treatment.
- Please note that a ‘fit’ medical report is usually valid only for 60 to 90 days; if this period expires, you must undergo the examination again before proceeding with your visa application.
- Always verify with the Qatar Visa Center (QVC), your employer, or a Qatari embassy before reapplying.
In conclusion
Being declared medically unfit can be discouraging, but it doesn’t necessarily end your chances of working in Qatar. In the case where your health condition is curable and temporary and not blacklisted, you can reapply by undergoing appropriate treatment and the medical tests again. It is very important always to be close to your employer and seek authority because the guidance given can be specific to your case.
