Lusail Stadium

The Lusail Iconic Stadium hosted both the opening game and the final of the 2022 World Cup. The arena had a capacity of just over 86,000 and was designed by British architects Foster + Partners. With a structure that mirrored the ancient Arab craft of bowl weaving, the stadium provided a stunning venue for the opening and closing of the tournament.

Al Bayt Stadium 

Inspired by traditional nomadic tents, the 60,000-capacity stadium had been set to host the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup. Positioned in the northern city of Al Khor, a city known for its pearl diving and fishing that has drawn desert residents to the coast throughout the years, Al Bayt Stadium's design reflects Qatar's past and present by showcasing the city's culture, traditions, and history. 

Resembling nomad tents, the upper tier of the seating in its modular design had been portable and intended to be removed following the championship. These sections were planned to be donated to developing nations needing sporting infrastructure. The stadium's design was unveiled in mid-2014 by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Aspire Zone Foundation. It had been inaugurated in early 2020, coinciding with Qatar's National Sports Day.

Khalifa International Stadium

The Khalifa International Stadium, the only Qatar football World Cup stadium not built from scratch, is the distinction of being the most iconic arena in Qatar, having stood since 1976, a period practically ancient by local standards. Following an extensive renovation, the stadium reopened in 2017 and boasted a 40,000 capacity, slated to host games up to the quarter-final stage of the tournament. 

Advanced cooling technologies have been employed to maintain the ideal temperature for both players and fans. In addition to a new east-wing structure that will include food courts, shops, multipurpose spaces, VIP lounges, a museum, and a health facility, the structure will also receive a single roof addition to protect the seating areas.

Al Janoub Stadium

Back in 2013, Zaha Hadid Architects was selected to collaborate with AECOM for the design and construction of Al Janoub Stadium (formerly known as Al Wakrah Stadium). Situated in Al Wakrah, one of the oldest inhabited areas in the south of Doha, the stadium was nestled within a rich cultural site steeped in profound archaeological heritage. Its design drew inspiration from the city's history of pearl diving, fishing, and traditional dhow boats.

The stadium, boasting a 40,000-seat capacity, opened on May 16, 2019, coinciding with the Amir Cup final. Post-World Cup, plans were in place to reduce the stadium's capacity to 20,000 attendees, while the remaining 20,000 seats were slated for donation to football development projects overseas. Alongside the stadium, various amenities such as hospitality and recreation facilities, a school, an event hall, cycling tracks, horse riding tracks, and running tracks have been under development to ensure the stadium's prolonged use and sustainability.

Situated a mere 12 km from central Doha, the visually striking and innovatively designed 40,000-seater Al-Thumama Stadium had captured attention. Its intriguing design drew inspiration from the gahfiya, the traditional woven cap worn by Arab males.

Similar to several stadiums featured in the 2022 World Cup, Al-Thumama had planned to halve its capacity post-tournament, with more than 20,000 seats designated for donation, aimed at fostering football development and enhancing stadiums in developing nations.

Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium

Construction on Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium commenced in early 2016 on the site of the former stadium, which had been named after Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar from 1960 to 1972. The stadium was designed by the UK architecture studio Pattern Design, with reported costs hovering around $360 million. Inaugurated on December 18, 2020, coinciding with Qatar National Day and two years ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament. This stadium, situated on the edge of the desert, serves as a marker for people traveling into or out of the city.

The new stadium was designed with sustainability in mind because Al Rayyan, which is recognized as the gateway to the desert, has always supported environmental issues. Almost 90% of the previous stadium site, which was constructed in 2003 and demolished in 2015, was recycled or reused. Following the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the upper tier and nearly half of the 40,000 seats were donated to support football development projects overseas.
