Hamad International Airport unveils new D and E Concourses

Vision of Hamad International Airport expansion

Concourses D and E have opened, completing the extension project that started in 2018 and bringing the airport's ambitious growth plan to a close. This milestone marks the last stage of a transformative journey that began in 2022 with the opening of the 6,000-square-meter indoor tropical garden known as the ORCHARD.

"The expansion of the D and E Concourses is a significant milestone that enhances passenger experience," stated Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, at a press conference.

He added, “While many global airport expansions have faced delays, we are proud to have delivered this major development ahead of schedule. This achievement reflects our commitment to operational excellence and strategic planning. This is not just about increasing capacity—it is about strengthening the entire Qatar Airways network, enhancing operational resilience, and supporting Qatar’s economic growth in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. This development allows us to meet the evolving demands of global travel while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a leading aviation hub.”

"The role of Qatar aviation sector is significant, and it adds a lot more opportunities for the job market, be it from a nationalization perspective or incentivizing the private sector. So, it’s definitely positive news in general and we will add more opportunities for us to acquire and expand our horizon,” stated Hamad Ali Al Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, in response to a question about the deployment of additional personnel with the expansion of two new concourses. 

The extension project, he said, is a representation of innovation and growth. “Our focus is to deliver operational excellence that supports both current demands and future growth.

The opening of Concourses D and E marks a significant milestone in expanding our capacity and enhancing operational efficiency.

This combined development streamlines passenger flow optimizes resource management, and strengthens airline connectivity, ensuring smoother and more efficient passenger services.” Al Khater added.

Vision of Hamad International Airport expansion

Concourses D and E feature the following enhancements:

Self-boarding systems

It introduces cutting-edge self-boarding devices that streamline the boarding procedure and make travel faster and more effective. Intelligent technology guarantees seamless transfers from the terminal to the aircraft, reduces wait times, and enables quick document verification.

New shops and restaurants

With the D and E Expansion, Qatar Duty Free is enhancing its options by adding over 9 additional retail locations and food and beverage establishments, bringing the total amount of retail space at the airport to 2,700 square meters.
